OREO turns 100!

OREO is turning 100! I had no idea OREO cookies were THAT old!

Everyone knows what OREO cookies are. It’s like an international language, right? Although I think every American kid grows up learning to separate an OREO cookie. My earliest memory is learning to twist them apart without breaking them. Not so easy for a little one. Once separated, I loved making an imprint of my teeth in the creamy filling.

Separating OREO cookies should become the method for educators to develop better dexterity in young children!

I’d love to know your earliest memory involving the ever so popular OREO cookies. Add it to theOREO 100th Birthday Party

Because we just can’t leave a good thing alone, I thought I’d try making OREO muffins. This recipe is from the Kraft Site.

OREO Muffins

1-3/4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 Tbsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup cold margarine or butter
1 egg
1 cup milk
16 OREO Cookies, coarsely chopped (about 2 cups)

PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in margarine with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

BEAT egg and milk with wire whisk until well blended. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened. Gently stir in chopped cookies. Spoon evenly into 12 greased or paper-lined medium muffin cups.

BAKE 15 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Remove from pan; cool slightly on wire rack. Serve warm.

Enjoy! Don’t forget to add your earliest memory.
