As I’ve mentioned, I was asked to speak at BlogHer14 this past July.
It was interesting to see the reactions from a few fellow bloggers, with most offering an overwhelming “congratulations” to “are you nervous?”.
The more I received the “congratulations”, the more I realized this was an accomplishment, a feather in my cap, one I hadn’t really thought of. The “are you nervous?” only made me think that maybe I should be nervous? Because I wasn’t.
Maybe it’s the years of being in front of crowds of people, teaching fitness classes in my exercise clothing with a not so typical fitness instructor body for the past 30 years, or perhaps I’ve reached a place in my life where I really do believe that it’s none of my business what people think of me. Now don’t get me wrong, there are certainly times I’m feeling less than secure and a bit nervous….it’s human nature, but I do notice as I get older, I am pretty darn comfortable in my own skin. It really is a waste of time to fret.
So when I was then asked to participate in the Stayfree® pads video campaign, I thought….. “Why not?”.
I’ve already been on TV once a month for our local morning show, so I’m well aware of how I look on camera and won’t be shocked by my Grandma Velma chin that shocked me the first time I viewed my segment. And I think they have an important message. It’s important to be comfortable with yourself and to STOP judging yourself. I know it’s cliche, but it’s important for women to embrace who they are.
Society has us SO obsessed with looking perfect, being a perfect weight, having the perfect clothing, shoes, or handbag……Is that really where our values lie? Surely you’re the same person on those not so perfect days.
Yes we should be presentable and all. I love to look cute and I feel better when I find a cute new outfit, but there are days that just being clean is good enough.
Had I not agreed to do this campaign, I wouldn’t have met the wonderful women I did. It was a great experience, one I’m glad I was comfortable enough to do!

Fragrance is how I pamper myself. I can scrimp on other things but splurge on my favorite perfumes. And I don’t save them for special occasions. I wear them all the time. I love how I smell. 🙂 And nothing makes me feel more special than a complete stranger walking by me and saying “ooooh you smell great!”

My pampering has been limited to getting my hair colored once a month! It is something I could do myself at home but I really enjoy having someone else covering up those grays! Plus my hair stylist is great to talk to so it is a win win!

I run a nice hot bath, grab my latest thriller to read and leave the phone in another room. I relax and sometimes fall asleep until the water gets too cool.
