While I’m away, I have such a great team of bloggers like Gail from My {re}Purposed Life sharing great stuff like Spray Painting Old Furniture. Don’t you love before and after stories! We all have an old piece of furniture that seems hopeless, but after reading this post, I think you’ll change your mind.
Spray Painting Old Furniture
I’m so happy to be visiting Today’s Creative Blog today, Kim was one of the first blogs to feature me way back in the day. I’m gail from My Repurposed Life. Like the title of my blog suggests, my specialty is repurposing. However, today I have an easy project showing you how to update an old piece of furniture with a little bit of spray paint and some new hardware.
A few months ago I picked up this desk for a steal—only $7!
Prepping to Spray Paint
Someone had replaced the original hardware with some kind of kitchen cupboard hardware.
That left me with some extra holes to fill. I used some wood putty to fill the holes.
I used some Scotch Blue painter’s tape around the edges.
I wanted a glossy white, and I had this Krylon Rust Protector Gloss Enamel. It works on wood too!
I sprayed many light coats—following the instructions on the can for dry times and re-coat times. I removed the tape before the final coat was dry. If I waited, it may not remove cleanly.
Here’s her new look! You can see I taped off the middle of the side drawers to give the desk the look of having a total of five drawers. I think that little extra bit ads a lot to her look.
I added some simple silver knobs in place of that kitchen cupboard hardware that she was sporting.
It’s so mazing what a little paint can do for an old piece of furniture.
The old gal still has a few blemishes, but I think that gives her character.
I found this chair at a local thrift store that is closing, and got it for 50% off, a mere $6.
Thank you Kim for allowing me to share my easy desk makeover today, I love making new friends!

I love the crisp, clean look of the desk! I was wondering what you did to the wood portion. It looks darker. Did you stain it? Thanks for the great ideas!

I love how the desk turned out! We have a couple dressers that I have had since I was in middle school. (Forever ago!) I have been wanting to redo them to match my girls room. I might try using spray paint. I bet it would be easier.
