Take a look at these 10 Unusual Ways to Use Mayonnaise and see if a jar of mayo can help you! You probably never thought that mayonnaise could be used for anything other than making food! But mayonnaise actually has a lot of possible applications, and can help with many stubborn problems! These are also some great frugal ways to use up mayonnaise that’s close to expiring! One of my unusual ways to use mayo is in my Mayonnaise Chocolate Cake. It’s so good!
10 Unusual Ways to Use Mayonnaise
The applications below are for cases where you use plain mayonnaise. Flavored mayonnaise (chipotle, garlic and herb, etc.) do have other ingredients, so may not work exactly the same. They also may leave behind specks of those ingredients, or possibly stain. Mayo that’s mixed with things (like olive oil) may also react differently than plain mayonnaise. These are great household tips on the unusual ways to use mayonnaise to clean or help with sticky situations.
1. Mayonnaise for Hair Conditioner
Did you know mayo could also double as a hair conditioner! To use it, just apply a good amount of mayonnaise to the ends of your hair before you wash it. Let that soak in for 15 minutes, then rinse it out and shampoo your hair as normal. It’ll make your hair nice and moisturized!
2. Mayonnaise for Gum Remover
If gum gets stuck in your hair or your child’s hair, don’t panic! All you have to do is take out your mayo, apply a generous amount on top of the gum, and rub it in. In a few minutes, you should be able to get the gum out easily. This also works with gum stuck to other surfaces, like carpeting!
3. Mayo for Ring Removal
One of the most helpful ways to use mayonnaise is as a ring remover! If you have a ring on your finger that’s too tight to remove by tugging, just rub mayonnaise on it and you’ll be able to slip it off your finger.
4. Mayonnaise for Nail Care
If you want nice nails, you should take advantage of one of the many ways to use mayonnaise! You can either soak your fingernails in a bowl of mayonnaise for five minutes or massage mayo into your nails and let it sit for 5 minutes. Rinse afterward and you’ll have wonderfully soft cuticles and shiny nails!
5. Mayonnaise will Remove Crayon Marks
At some point in your life, it’s very likely that you’ll have to deal with crayon marks on your walls. Luckily all you need to get those marks off is mayonnaise! Cover the marks with mayo, let that set for 10 minutes, then wipe the mayo (and the marks) off the wall! If your wall is painted with flat paint, you may want to test this in an inconspicuous area first, just to make sure it won’t remove your paint, too.
6. Mayonnaise as an Adhesive Removal
It’s pretty annoying when you want to peel a sticker or label off of something, but just the paper on the sticker tears and you can’t really get the sticker off. To take stickers off of surfaces with ease, you can use mayonnaise! Apply mayonnaise on the sticker, give it a little rub and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then wipe at the mayo with a cloth. The sticker will come off easily! This also works with car bumper stickers!
7. Polish Silver with Mayonnaise
You don’t need any fancy silver polish product to make your silver shine! Instead, try one of the great ways to use mayonnaise and rub some mayo on your silver. Afterward, just rinse it clean!
8. Use Mayo for a Door Hinge Lubricant
There’s no need to put chemicals on the hinges of a squeaky door! Instead, just rub a little mayonnaise into the hinge, and the squeak should be gone!
9. Mayonnaise for Paint Clean Up
Cleaning up spilled paint can be a difficult job. But if you add some mayonnaise to the spill, the paint will become looser and thus become easier to clean up!
10. Polish Houseplant Leaves with Mayonnaise
It’s terrible to get your house clean and shining, but have a dull-looking houseplant in the corner! To brighten it up, just rub a small bit of mayonnaise into the leaves. It’ll become nice and shiny!
