This 4 ingredient recipe for peppermint bark is an easy to make Christmas candy that tastes like the holidays. Milk or dark chocolate with a layer of white chocolate, and finally topped with crushed peppermint candy or candy canes. I add peppermint extract to make it extra flavorful. Peppermint bark makes a great homemade Christmas gift idea for friends and neighbors.
Recipe for Peppermint Bark
Making candy bark is one of the easiest candies anyone can make. You are melting chocolate and pouring and topping it with your ingredients of choice. You can use candy wafers, chocolate chips, or almond bark. Melting is the only “cooking” you’ll need to do and you can use the microwave for that.
How to Make Peppermint Bark with Chocolate
You’ll need the following items to make peppermint candy bark.
- Chocolate almond bark or chocolate candy wafers
- White chocolate almond bark or white chocolate candy wafers
- Peppermint Extract
- Peppermint Candies or Candy Canes
- Baking sheet with parchment paper
Melt the Chocolate
Break up the chocolate almond bark into chunks and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring. Add and stir a teaspoon (or more) or peppermint extract.
Pour the First Layer of Chocolate
Pour chocolate over the parchment paper and spread evenly.
Melt the White Chocolate
Melt the white chocolate the same way you melted the milk chocolate. When melted, spread over the milk chocolate being careful not to combine the two. Don’t forget to add a teaspoon or so of the peppermint extract before pouring. I usually let it sit for a few minutes to let it set before pouring the layer of white chocolate.
Crush the Peppermint Candies
You can purchase peppermint candy crumbles, but what fun is that? Plus it’s much less expensive to crush your own. You can use candy canes or round peppermint candy mints. I used my rolling pin after placing them in a sealed baggy.
Top with Peppermint Candy Crumbles
While the white chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the candies across the top. Let it sit until cool and set. It will take about 30-45 min. Break it up into chunks and you’re finished!
How to Store Peppermint Bark
You’ll want to keep your homemade candy bark in an airtight container. I like using a plastic food storage container instead of a plastic baggy because it keeps the crumbles from coming loose. You can freeze peppermint bark for up to 6 months if needed.
Peppermint Bark with Chocolate
This Peppermint Bark Recipe is an easy candy to make for Christmas.
Ingredients
- Chocolate Almond Bark (24oz.) - or a bag of candy melts.
- White Chocolate Almond Bark (24oz.) - or a bag of candy melts
- 2 teaspoons Peppermint Extract (about 1 teaspoon for both chocolates)
- 1 bag Peppermint Candies - or candy canes, or crushed peppermint crumbles
Instructions
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, or you can lay it out on the counter.
- Break the chocolate almond bark up into chunks and place in a large microwave-safe bowl. I use a 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup.
- Microwave in 30-second intervals and stir each time. Continue until it's melted.
- Add a teaspoon (or more) of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate and stir well.
- Pour melted chocolate onto the parchment paper and spread with the back of a large spoon or rubber spatula.
- While the chocolate is setting, use this time to break up the peppermint candies. Place them in a large ziplock bag and crush with a rolling pin. You can use a rubber meat tenderizer or mallet. Set aside.
- Break white chocolate almond bark up into chunks and melt the same way as you melted the milk chocolate. Add peppermint extract after it's melted and stir.
- Pour the melted white chocolate over the milk chocolate and gently spread being careful not to blend the two. That's why I let it set for a bit so it's slightly hardened.
- Immediately sprinkle the peppermint candy crumbles over the top.
- Let the peppermint bark set for at least 30-45 min before breaking into pieces. You can place it in the refrigerator if needed.
Notes
Store peppermint bark in an airtight container.
Peppermint Bark Variations
- Use candy melts instead of almond bark.
- Use dark chocolate instead of milk. Dark chocolate candy bars work well for this. You would need 3 or 4 of them.
- Add peppermint crumbles to the melted chocolates before pouring and on top.
- Add additional holiday sprinkles.
- Pour small 3-inch discs instead of a whole slab.
- Use candy canes or pre-crumbled peppermint candy.
