Ideas for Thanksgiving Table Settings
I’ve got two easy DIY ideas for Thanksgiving table settings. This year, I was inspired to make place cards using pressed fall leaves and printable sketched acorns. I love them both! Follow the tutorials below to learn how.
Keeping it simple and natural is my motto for decorating my Thanksgiving table. I’ll forage my yard picking up leaves or cutting twigs and branches to add to my seasonal decor. You can see how I created a simple rustic Thanksgiving centerpiece and also decorated my hutch by stuffing in as many pumpkins as I could. Always try adding a bit of the unexpected.
Gold Painted Leafs Thanksgiving Table Place Card
While out on one of my walks, I picked up a few fall leaves. I came home and pressed them in between two pages of cardstock inside a heavy book. I didn’t really know what I would do with them until I checked them a couple of weeks later and thought I’d try painting gold leaf paint over a portion of them. This could totally be done with fresh leaves too. I love the rustic natural look and the variety of leaves.
How to Make Gold Painted Fall Leaves
Easy to make fall accents for DIY Fall decor or Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas.
Materials
- Fall Leaves - I used real ones. You could try using faux ones.
- Gold Leafing Paint - Acrylic gold paint may work too.
Tools
- Small paint brush - mine is about a 1/2 inch wide.
Instructions
- Grab your supplies and prepare your workspace. I like using cardboard or poster board to protect my tabletop.
- Grab your fall leaves. You can press and dry them ahead of time if you'd like. I placed mine between two pieces of cardstock and pressed them inside a heavy book for a few days. You can use fresh leaves too. Be sure to wash and dry.
- Gather a small paintbrush.
- Shake your paint and dip the tip of the brush into the paint. Gold leafing paint can have a strong odor, so be prepared.
- Lightly brush the bottom half of each leaf. I held down the stem to steady the leaf while painting. (if you're using acrylic paints, use a thin layer and repeat if needed.)
- Set aside to dry. Gold Leafing paint drys quickly, but acrylic takes longer.
- Use a marker to write names on the leaf if using for place cards.
